September Tiger Talk Newsletter Welcome back, Tigers! It's hard to believe we're already a month into the new school year. The first few weeks have been full of learning and laughter, and it's wonderful to see all of our students settling in and making new friends.
Attendance Matters A huge thank you to all our families for your commitment to good attendance. Being at school on time every day is one of the most important things a student can do to be successful. It ensures they don't miss out on important lessons and helps them build a strong foundation for the rest of the year. Keep up the great work! This year we will have a surprise attendance day that is unannounced each month. Anyone who is present on these days will receive the reward.
Character Trait of the Month: Friendship Friendship means being kind, caring, and supportive of others. At Tiger Creek Elementary, we show friendship by including others, helping when someone needs us, listening with kindness, and treating everyone with respect. Every Tiger. Every Day.
A Note on Our Car Rider Line To keep our car rider line moving smoothly and safely, please remember the following: Do not get out of your car to buckle your child in while in the car line. This holds up the entire line and can be dangerous. Instead, please pull ahead past spot number 1 to a designated buckling station. Once you are safely parked, you can then get out and help your child buckle up.
Also, please remember that staff members cannot buckle students in. This is for your child's safety and to ensure we can keep the line flowing. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us make our dismissal process safe and efficient for everyone. One final note-if at all possible please allow your child to enter the car on the passenger side of the car. Walking in front of or between cars poses a safety issue. Thank you for your help with this.

As we begin the month of September, I want to take a moment to celebrate the wonderful start we have had at Tiger Creek Elementary! Our students and staff have worked hard to make the first month of school a successful one, and we are excited about all that is ahead.
One of the keys to a successful school day is being on time. Arriving at school on time helps students start their day prepared, confident, and ready to learn. Every minute matters, and establishing a consistent morning routine can make a big difference in a student’s success. Thank you to our families for partnering with us and helping make this a great first month of the school year. Let’s continue to work together to make every day at Tiger Creek a great day to learn and grow!

The MyRide K-12 App is a mobile application designed to help parents and students stay informed about school transportation schedules.
- Download My Ride K-12 from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
- After the app installation is complete, open My Ride K-12.
- When prompted to find your school district, search for Catoosa County Public Schools - GA. If you need assistance, please contact your school district.
- Once you have selected your district, you will proceed to the login page. If you do not already have a registered email, click Register.
- To register, enter your email address, a password, and name.
- After registering, you will receive a confirmation email. Tap on the link in your email to confirm your registration through the My Ride K-12 website.
- Log in, then find a student by going to My Students and choosing the + button. This will present the Add Student screen.
- Enter the your student's ID number followed by your student's last name. Click to add the student after verifying the information is correct. Repeat this step to add additional students. If you need assistance, please contact your school district.
- Once you have linked to a student, click on that student’s profile to see all relevant transportation information.
- Regularly check for updates to ensure that your device is running the latest version of the app.
- Remain logged in to the app to receive district notifications, even when the app is not actively running.

This week (August 31-Sept 4) is the Penny Drive where we collect change to help fund the Tiger Student awards given out each semester to students. See the flyer for the dress up day schedule! Grade Level that collects the most gets a pizza party! |
September 8th -18th, students will be collecting can foods as well as other dry non-perishable food items (rice, instant oatmeal, etc...) to be donated to families in our community. The class that collects the most items will receive a party from Builtwell Bank! |

Students wear your TCE shirts or Ringgold shirts to the Ringgold Football game Friday, Sept 4th and get in free! Be down by the fence near the locker room at 7pm to go out on the field and cheer on our team as they run out. Parents please stay by the fence to collect your student(s) after the team runs out! |
Half-Day Scheduled Parents, please note that all Catoosa County Schools will close early on September 18th for a scheduled half-day. Elementary schools will dismiss starting at 11:00am & all Middle & High Schools will dismiss at 11:30am on Friday, September 18th! Students will be dismissed their normal way unless you send in a note saying otherwise. |

To help with attendance, please schedule wellness, doctor, and dentist visits as well as travel plans as much as possible during non-school days to avoid unnecessary absences from school. Please use the following documents to help you with planning. Thank you for your help with this. |

September’s Social Emotional Learning focuses on identifying our feelings and noticing where we are in four zones of self-regulation. Students use the sheet pictured below, to “find their feeling” and then choose calming strategies from the bottom of the page. Each student has a copy of this sheet in their work area at school. Take a moment to discuss this sheet with your child and let them tell you how they use it during the day. |
September’s character education word is FRIENDSHIP. We show friendship by reaching out to those around us and letting them know that we care about them. |
Rexie, the Tiger Creek bearded dragon, is having a fun time hanging out with Ms. Saylor‘s class and learning some things about good hallway behavior! Rexie enjoys having students visit the counseling office during the morning breakfast time and also during lunch. If your child has not had a chance to meet Rexie, please let the counselor know! |
Come and join us this Thursday, September 3rd at 9am for the Volunteer Orientation to learn about ways to volunteer at The Creek. A light breakfast will be served.
The Title 1 Annual Meeting (Online Presentation) will be sent out very soon. I am having to wait on a few things from the county office before it is complete. Sorry for the delay.
In the meantime, please complete our Fall Title 1 Parent Survey so that it can help guide our Title 1 Program this year. Your child(ren) will get a treat for it being completed. You may have a teacher-parent conference at any time during the school year. If you have any concerns, please let the teacher/school know as soon as possible. If you have updated medical info, or want more information on the way your child learns or learning standards contact your child’s teacher by emailing the teacher, calling the school at 706-935-9890 and leaving the teacher a voice message or by sending in a written request to the teacher. Your child's teacher will get back to you as quickly as possible.

PTO did a quick treat to our school staff including our bus drivers & bus monitors on this first day of September. PTO wants our staff to know that we appreciate them. PTO will do this several times throughout the year as well as our events for students & TCE families! |
These wonderful ladies get to school super early to get a warm nutritious breakfast ready for our students. Then as soon as breakfast is over they start working on lunch for the students and staff. They always have a smile on their faces and love to interact with the students! They help make our school "Tiger-iffic! |

Each month, each homeroom teacher selects the student who has shown the most growth, whether it is academic growth, behavioral growth, social growth or any combination of these. They may also select their student who demonstrates the character ed trait of the month such as responsibility, trust, etc... Congratulations to these students for showing GREAT Character and Growth! |
Now that we are back in school, it is time to talk about ways to help prevent spreading germs.
- Through handwashing with soap & water for at least 20 seconds is the crucial step to prevent illness.
- Washing hands often.
- Sneezing or coughing into your elbow or covering your nose/mouth with a tissue.
- Carrying hand sanitizer that contains at least 70% isopropyl alcohol.
- Staying home if you are sick.
- Avoiding people who are sick.
Proper hand hygiene can significantly decrease illness-related absences in schools. How to Wash Hands Properly:
- Wet Hands: use clean running water to wet hands and wrists
- Apply Soap: Apply soap & lather your hands
- Scrub Thoroughly: Vigorously rub your hands together for at least 20 seconds
Palm to Palm, Back of each hand, Between the fingers, Fingernails, & Wrists & thumbs - Rinse Well: rinse hands & wrists with clean running water keeping hands tilted downward.
- Dry: Dry hands & wrists with a clean dry cloth or disposable towel.

Fun ways to practice Reading and Math at home with your child: Reading: - Family Story Night – Take turns reading a chapter or picture book out loud together.
- Scavenger Hunt – Make a list of spelling or sight words to find around the house or while running errands.
- Bedtime “Commercial” – Have kids give a 1-minute “commercial” about the book they’re reading to encourage summarizing.
- Book-to-Movie Challenge – Read a book together, then watch the movie version and compare.
Math: - Cooking & Baking – Measuring cups = fractions in action. Double or halve a recipe for practice.
- Grocery Store Math – Compare prices, estimate totals, or find the better deal.
- Board Games & Card Games – Yahtzee, Monopoly, Uno, or even simple card games build number sense.
- Sports Stats – Track favorite player stats, calculate averages, or keep score during a family game.
- Math Scavenger Hunt – Find shapes, angles, or numbers around the house or neighborhood.
- Money Practice – Let kids handle change, add up purchases, or run a “store” at home.
Daily Estimation – Guess how many steps to the mailbox, then check. Estimate how long dinner will take, then time it.

As we move into September and settle into our school routines, traffic safety remains one of our biggest priorities. With busy mornings, afternoon dismissal, school buses, student drivers, walkers, and parents coming and going, it is important that everyone does their part to keep our roads and school campus safe.
Please remember Rhea McClanahan is a ONE WAY Rd. Please follow traffic directions, obey school-zone speed limits, never pass a stopped school bus when required to stop, and always watch for children who may unexpectedly enter the roadway.
Our children's safety is worth slowing down for. No destination is more important than a life. Slow down. Stay alert. Arrive safely.

Does your child have a birthday in September? They will receive a free Birthday Book from the media center as a gift from TCE. If their birthday falls on the weekend, they may pick up their book on Friday or Monday. |
To prevent injury of themselves and others: EACH STUDENT MUST WEAR TENNIS SHOES TO PARTICIPATE IN PE! NO crocs, hey dudes, boots, flip flops, sandals or slides allowed!
Please make sure your student(s) wear TENNIS SHOES on their designated PE days so they can fully participate in games. Students who do not have proper footwear will exercise by walking laps in the gym.

At the library, they provide free Internet, access to Microsoft Office programs, GALILEO, GADD, and so much more! Our Catoosa County Library is a member of PINES, a public library lending network of more than 300 libraries throughout Georgia. “See Something, Send Something” provides a platform to capture a photo of suspicious activity or send information with written text. Info received is sent directly to the Georgia Information Sharing and Analysis Center (GISAC) where tips are evaluated and provided to law enforcement across the state as needed. The application is available at no cost for iPhone and Android phone users, as well as iPad users.
The service, provided by My Mobile Witness, Inc., uses privacy protection software to safeguard users’ personal information and the integrity of tips. The system allows citizens to engage with GISAC without tracking locations or storing any personal information. Submitted tips are immediately removed from the mobile device and purged from the My Mobile Witness system following delivery to GISAC.
NOTE: This system is NOT intended for emergency situations. For situations requiring an immediate response, call 911 or your local law enforcement directly.
